Together with producer Geert Torfs and game designer Jill Vanparys, we designed a small sandbox game based around Fabrique Fantastique’s Sir Mouse. In addition to game design, I was responsible for developing the game in Unity.
We heavily studied the target audience, ages 5 to 7, to get the 3 C’s in place. This was especially challenging because kids at this age might have never played a game before and are taking their first steps into the realm of gaming. Given Sir Mouse’s inherent orthographic perspective and the platform being mobile devices, the boundaries we had to work within were clear.
We designed a point-and-click mechanic for the movement and to make the character do actions, balloons popped up that acted as buttons. The level is an environment based on the animated series filled with interactable objects. The player can explore the sandbox level and perform all kinds of interactions.
This game, Sir Mouse The Game, was sold to Ketnet and would later serve as the foundation of our next game, Sir Mouse: Costume Party.
On Sir Mouse: Costume Party, I supervised a team of 3 developers. You can find more information about the project below.
The whole kingdom is celebrating a costume party, and at the castle’s courtyard, there’s a costume contest going on. Sir Mouse overslept and realizes she’s too late for the contest. She rushes to the courtyard and ends up on the stage with her pajamas still on… The jury and King aren’t amused.
Explore the kingdom and engage with other characters to collect costume pieces and put together an outfit that blows the jury away!
Players can change their entire outfit at any given time by opening the wardrobe menu. Here, they can browse through all the collected costume pieces and identify which pieces they’re still missing. The pieces are divided by body parts, allowing players to creatively assemble the craziest costumes imaginable!
Spread throughout the kingdom, there are characters with whom you can trade goods in exchange for costume pieces.
Players can collect a handful of tools that help them collect goods, such as a butterfly net or flower shears.
There are several mini-games scattered across the kingdom. These reward the player with entire outfits.
